Newborn Photography Client Guide

Welcome! Thank you for choosing me to capture your baby’s first days. These tiny, fleeting moments pass so quickly and I’m honored to help you preserve them. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know to make the most of your newborn session.

When to Schedule

Best Time for Photos:
Newborn sessions are best done between 5–14 days after birth. During this window, babies are still very sleepy and flexible, making it easier to pose them comfortably.

Booking Tip:
Please book your session before your due date. We’ll set a tentative session based on your due date and adjust once your baby arrives.

Session Option

In-Home Lifestyle Session (1.5–3 hours)

Natural, documentary-style portraits featuring your home and family in a relaxed setting. Great for candid moments and comfort.

What to Expect

Day of the Session:
 

  • Session Length: 1.5–3 hours (depending on how baby does)

  • Breaks for Feeding/Changing: Totally normal and expected!

  • Patience is Key: We follow baby’s lead to keep the session calm and stress-free.

What to Wear

  • Neutral, solid colors work best (white, cream, grey, beige, soft tones)

  • Avoid logos, busy patterns, or bold colors

  • Coordinate, but don’t match exactly

  • Keep makeup natural and nails tidy (hands often appear in close-ups!)


Preparing Your Baby

  • Try to keep baby awake for 1–2 hours before the session to ensure they are sleepy

  • Feed your baby just before the session starts

  • Dress baby in  neutrals/whites, loose, easy-to-remove clothing to avoid waking them up during changes.  Have
    some white or light tone wraps available for wrapping baby.

Preparing Your Home (Lifestyle Sessions)

  • Tidy up spaces you’d like to use (bedroom, nursery, living room)

  • Open blinds for natural light

  • Neutral bedding or throws can help minimize distractions

  • Don’t worry about clutter — I’ll help stage the space if needed

Family & Sibling Photos

  • These are always included if desired!

  • Let me know ahead of time who will be participating

  • Siblings are best photographed early in the session, so they don’t have to wait too long

After the Session

  • Gallery Delivery: 2–3 weeks after the session via an online gallery

  • Archiving: Make sure to download and back up your images!
